SGIX was recently featured on ZDNet Asia (10 December 2009, Thursday). It was reported that Singapore is in a good position to serve the growing market for data in the Asia-Pacific region; said Jay Bowker, vice president of sales for optical switch maker, Glimmerglass, he commented that an Internet Exchange serves as a “meeting place” that manages the flow of data between different Internet carriers.
Bowker added that “Singapore is already thought of as a technology hub. It would stand to reason that it should grow to be the dominant Internet-peering domain for the region.”
Bowker further commented that, a neutral facility would keep cost low thus allowing charges that are “little to nothing” for ISPs to connect, and this can eventually acts as a premium service to content providers like Google and Yahoo, giving them assured connectivity to ISP partners on the exchange.
SGIX convened its First Extraordinary General Meeting on 23 Oct 2009 and the Board Election was held.
SGIX would like to congratulate the appointment of the following members as the First Board of Directors:
Singapore Internet Exchange Ltd. (SGIX) was incorporated on the 4 September 2009 with 11 founding members and it seeks to increase its membership to 15 by the end of the year. It will play a significant role in enabling the retail service providers (RSP) to deliver high-speed and bandwidth intensive applications and services to end users over the Next Gen NBN by providing a neutral and efficient central point of traffic exchange.
